Hey Gang,

So Key West is winterized and fall fishing is now over... Sad but true.

Time to get this Lund finished so I can keep it up north, and have my garage back until another project comes about.

I have the Sharkhide product and I'm in process sanding the bottom before application. I found a few hairline cracks where the front trailer rollers were located (converting trailer to bunks also stay tuned) My plan is to drill small holes at the end of the cracks to stop progress, patch with aluminum, epoxy and rivets.

Sound like a plan? 01DEC2013%2B232.jpg

Long time no see Bear, looking good on the bottom prep,:thumb: and yeap that's the only way to properly repair those stress cracks and be certain it will hold up. I've used 5200 back buttered on the patch, new rivets and then the gluvit on the inside.

Hey H2O been lurking and crazy busy fall fishing work etc....

So just need some "good to go!" from tinners on my patch before I slather back with 5200, and button with close end blind rivets...

Just a thought on that rivet in the existing hole, rivets pull and swell to hold and there's a crack so be sure to use something as a backer to take that force so the cracked hull isn't otherwise the rivet will get loose pretty quickly. I'm glad you didn't try putting the rivets in the stop crack holes too.

First of 3 patches done. I ended up going from the inside on the old rivet hole due to it's diameter. It had a back-up piece other than the skin, the first bulkhead tab is there and not cracked. I used the larger diameter mushroom head on the inside, and pounded the end side flat. It's seems very strong repair... The other two should be cake...

I feel like it was good call going the patching route. I've gained some good experience in doing so...

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

I now have two coats of Sharkhide metal finish protectant on the bottom of the Lund. I may put one more coat for touch up it's not easy blending as the solvent flash dries very quickly. I also managed to spray acid etching primer to any bare aluminum, and roll one coat of Rustoleum grey metal primer. Bye bye red!

Patches are the only way to go for a trouble free repair and those should hold up for a good long time :encouragement:

Oh yeah I like nice clean white, to me there's nothing plain about it, classy!

Thanks Watermann!

I had some good progress this weekend. I sanded the first primer coat and applied a second coat. The following day I sanded everything again using red scotch pad to scuff surface for top coat. Compressed air to clean primer dust, then wax de-greaser and roll rolled the first coat of white. I used ~ 10-15% zylene to thin rusto oil base, then ~ 30 mL hardener to ~ 600 mL total volume paint. The roll roll technique worked well, I was on a learning curve so the first side isn't as good as the second . I have a few runs here and there, and can see overlap and primer under, but with two more coats it should look awesome!

Very nice ! Yep once ya get used to the way it rolls it does a pretty nice job ... I like to lay it on just a bit heavier than thin ,if that makes sense, and then just using 2 fingers on the roller handle go slow with just the weight of the roller and the bubbles start to disappear ...

Looks great!! Your set up is what I'm really wanting to do with my tin. Does the Merc you got with it have any issues or is it ready to go? You do excellent work!
