Re: Hydraulic steering repair

Irregardless of what type of system you have, you need to do some basic troubleshooting to find the leak...
The fluid level cannot go down in the reservoir without the fluid actually going someplace outside of the system...
You will need an assistant to turn the steering to full lock, first check all the way to the right, then check all the way to left...you should also keep an eye out while your assistant is actually turning the wheel...when you reach full lock, apply slight pressure to the wheel...this will pressurize the system and hopefully cause whatever is leaking to show its ugly face...
You need to look at all the possible places where fluid could leak out of...any fittings, joints, hoses, connections, the backside of the helm...if it is an I/O, you need to carefully inspect any places where the hoses go through the hull to the outdrive, the steering ram etc., etc...
It may be a slow enough leak that the area where it is leaking is only wet with fluid...to verify you need to thoroughly degrease/clean the area and re-check...
Good Luck and be sure to let us know what you find...
