5200 is semi permanant...4200 is not...the general rule is if you plan to take it apart someday, then 4200.

If you mean the semi thing, it just means nothing is permanant in this world..cept maybe death :D..to clarify, 4200 for non permanant repairs.

You said 5200 is Semi Permanent and then you said to use 4200 if you wanted to take it apart some day.

5200 permanant (semi)
4200 non permanant

Re: mounting engine resting directly on top edge of transom, not necessary or desirable. The bolts hold it in place. Drill the bolt holes so the anti-cavitation plate is level with the bottom of the hull (keel), and can be raised or lowered if needed.

Thank you kjdunne! This makes me feel better. It appears that the top holes were used on both upper and lower sets of mounting tabs on the outboard. Does that sound standard?

If the top holes of the transom bracket were used before, the engine may have been too low in the water, or the transom was drilled incorrectly. You should be able to raise or lower the engine from the "anti-cav plate even with the keel" position. There is a set of measurements to make a template posted on here somewhere that will allow the engine to be adjusted up or down on the transom. The anti-cav plate even with the keel is a starting point, some adjustment may be needed to fine tune your boats performance. I beleive the transom bolt hole pattern for outboards has been standardized among manufacturers for some time now.

Wow jc, that is a stressful task right there. Let me know how you figure it out. Not that I need to tell you this but be careful! Or maybe you can just slap it on there with some glue.

Re: 1968 Sportcraft C-Gull work boat project

Thank you kjdunne. That's exactly what I was after.

MHj, it's all good!

Bought a stainless 3 bow hardware kit from ebay and some 1" OD aluminum locally to make my own windshield attached, bimini top frame. Got some ideas brewing for a utility bar of some sort, as soon as it warms up a little. I shrink wrapped the boat like a warehouse pallet but the roads are too nasty to pull her home to work on her.

Hey jc. If you can't find what you need, I think you should be able to get the mount pattern from a copy of your motors maintenance manual. If I remember correctly, the factory manual that I have for my Johnson has the mounting instructions with all of the dimensions and everything.
I know your running a different motor, but their manual may have one too. Just thought I would throw that one at ya.

Just an update to keep this thread going. Finally dragged her home and started the final assembly. Hope to splash test her in the next week or two.

Thanks Zool! It's hard to press on with the Sport Craft, knowing that it's completion means a dry dock for the Steiger. Transom and deck this fall...why do we do this to ourselves?

Well, rain or shine it was "splash day". And boy did it rain! Took her out to the island and back, about an 8 mile round trip on the Ohio River. Already had offers to sell it today, lol. I haven't had this much fun on a boat in a while. Ironically, it's like riding in a '50's toaster(without it being plugged in of course). It was so ridiculously refreshing to drive something so retro. It felt like driving an old speedster.

Engine fired right up after a year of layup (bought it last year from a marina used). No electrical yet, just the motor. WOT with 270lbs of human, 11 gallons of fuel, accessories, and a 25 hp Bigfoot with an 11 pitch prop was 23.5 mph. 17 mph on plane at a light cruise. It came out a little too good and I'll have to start living with scratches and stress cracks no doubt.

Thanks for the great advice here everyone! I absolutely couldn't have done it without the help of the iboats forums, on to the next one!
