Thanks Glen, JB, a little more progress on the tear down, looks like someone else did some tearing of their own before me. IMG_5947.jpgIMG_5945.jpgIMG_5951.jpgIMG_5960.jpgIMG_5961.jpg

Looks almost like someone was trying to access where the fuel lines go through the stringer into the tank.

Re: 1979 Supersport 18 V5 Rebuild

Got the inside gutted except the floor, I cut the councils off with jig saw, going to reattach later with aluminum angle a lot easier redoing the floor when they are out of the way, also easier to carpet them when not attached, found out the hard way that wasps can sting more than once was removing padding in the bow reached under the gunnel to remove a screw and felt something went to remove it and ouccccccccccccch got stung about 4 times that hurt but at least I got rid of the nest stomped it must have stood on it about 5 minutes, didn't have any insect killer so sprayed the heck out of under the gunnels with room freshener, think it worked. Going to have to move my windshield forward about 2 inches to acomidate my new gauge cluster, there's room may have a bit of a problem re aligining it but should be no problem.

Fast work - look forward to following along. How hard was it to get the side panels off?

Thanks pc the side panels are actually easy just a few screws, but some boats use rivits then you have to drill them out.

Hey Glen did you catch any fish, not really close to being half done, the easy part's done my son is away for about a week, when he comes back we want to flip it over sand it down and paint it, going to be a little harder than the sylvan. how's the mercruiser running. Duncan you just have to use brute force to get the carpet out, this one was a little harder than the others I've done they used a lot of glue, but that parts done.

Got the gas tank out, looks a little different than yours Duncan, mines completely square and has a aluminum enclosure pop riveted in place and what looks like a very water logged and rotten 2x4 support under it, I guess I'll have to remove the aluminum and replace the 2x4 support wish mine was like yours Duncan would be a lot easier. Looks like you have an aluminum bottom tub riveted in between the stringers under your tank. My support plywood rested on the hull supports with small pieces of foam underneath. What capacity is that tank ?

Re: 1979 Supersport 18 V5 Rebuild

Yes thats exactly how it's built except it has what looks like a 2x4 support under it, going to be removing the aluminum tub soon so I'll know for sure. good news is the transum is good, I guess being enclosed the way it is protects it, I cut some access holes in the splashwell a lot easier to get at the drain, bilge, and live well pump, I might install a live well in the rear passenger side, also will be easier access to the batteries.
