Just some pictures of my restoration of my 1954 Lone Star Commander I bought from my neighbor in 2012.

Pictures of the paint being removed from the exterior. The bottom of the boat was very pitted and I filled that with Gluvit and J.B. Weld. I’ve been on the water about 24 times and its worked perfectly.

Primer on the top and bottom. All of it was painted with self-etching Rustoleum primer. I then used a light grey primer over that on the top section because of the final color I was going to use.

Here it is with the silver upper complete (not buffed out yet) and the new Lone Star decals applied.

Here is the black Rustoleum marine grade bottom paint (under the water line). Also used Hurculiner on the transom motor mount section.

Masked it up to apply 3M 5200 black and mixed my own gray for the above water areas, as well as using the white around the upper area

Re: 1954 Lone Star Commander

More to come, I need to reduce the size of the pictures from this point. I complete the Interior with Tuff Coat floor paint, add a drain hole, rebuild the transom and add an Anchor Mate. I also cut out the rear seat to add a compartment for 2 batteries and an onboard Minn-Kota charging system. I’ve added Interior and exterior lighting complete with a control panel and a lot more. I am beginning a restoration of a 1963 Mercury Merc 60 6hp as well to add to the boat. Here she is behind the FJ.

Did you do any reinforcing to compensate for the removal of the rear seat? Have you added or considered adding any flotation foam?

Transom being replaced, I actually had to cut the supports on each side with a cut off wheel. You can see it was very rotted out form being stored for many years upside down.

Tuff Coat grey flooring in, new paint, Anchor Mate, new transom with new aluminum diamond plate supports, new seats, and drain hole.

Interior lighting and control panel (I am remaking this control panel, I’m unhappy with it)

I have not taken any pictures of this yet. I will tonight and post them. I've had her on the water twice sense I modified it. I believe the way I cut it, it is very close to as strong as it was before. As far as floating and foam, it was a concern of mine but I just went for it one day. Hope not to regret it but I get the feeling it’s going to be ok. The boat is extremely stable even in bad weather and strong wind, I still have the other two float chambers lol.
