The rear bench seat plywood that supports the seat is totally rotten. The seat flips up for storage, the rotten part is the back piece in front of the engine. The floors and surrounding areas is solid. New to boats, but somewhat handy in the garage. The wood is thin, 3/8's inch thick. It appears to be original. Any advice to make the seat functional would be greatly appreciated.

Few different options are available...from the better choices to the less desirable...

Epoxy resin plus paint [ if exposed to UV] , plus new piece of wood...

Polyester resin plus cloth plus new piece of exterior grade plywood...

Spar varnish plus new piece of ext. grade plywood...

Several coats of paint plus new piece of ext. grade plywood...

Thickness of the wood can be increased, if you want...

Also, pictures will help get better ideas and suggestions...

I have 3/4 inch plywood, spar varnish, Screw & Glue to rebuild the area in the pic below the rear seat. My question is do I need to replace all the carpet? I'm going to replace the front part facing the inside of the boat under the seat. Thanks

The plywood is exterior grade? right?

Screw & Glue to rebuild the area in the pic below the rear seat.
Forgot to mention, get some 3M 4200 or 5200 or a good quality marine sealant and use it to slather on the threads of the screws to prevent any moisture from getting into the wood...

My question is do I need to replace all the carpet?
Not unless you want to...unless of course it is really wet or soggy, if it is, you might not like what you find underneath...maybe...
