Anyone at all?
Any tips or anything?
How do you slide the new wood in up behind the well?

Don't know Alert 180's but I suspect you remove the splashwell

Pix will help

W/ pix someone unfamiliar w/ your actual boat can probably offer assistance, but not on something that can't be seen.

An OB, so likely you need to pop the entire cap:

Or cut the cap & remove a portion of it & the splashwell:

I was was go about cutting the cap. Would it be much more of a PITA to mod the transom to mount the kicker so I can ditch the bracket???

Ray,
It really makes things lot easier for the members to help you if you keep all of your posts concerning your boat rebuild on the same thread. That way we know everything about your project. You need to be more detailed in your descriptions of what exactly you are wanting to do if you want helpful advice.

See I dont really know my project yet or what route I want to take.... just trying to figure it out.

Seeing as it is an OB and I know it will be a PITA to install the wood between the well and the transom, I was thinking about instaling it in 3 pieces. Center section first then the outsides, or the the bottom 1/3 first then slide the tops in. Useing lap joints of course. that way the cap dosent have to be removed or cut.
top corner. treated wood you can see has been attached ontop of the glass on the transom, appears to be that way from the factory

Looking up under the splash well, the bolts you see are the lower bolts on the motor mount

IMHO to replace the transom you will need to either remove the cap or cut the back 1/4 section off to gain access to it. Trying to Piece it in is NOT a good structurally sound method of doing the repair.

Yep ^^^

The 'factory' treated lumber is not likely to have been originally installed by the factory:

I would think that even less then detail oriented boat manufacturers would have done a better install then that ^^ But maybe the quality control guy had the day off when yours was released for sale.

The blacker paint over the foam is a slightly different color & texture then the other areas in that ^^^ pix. I'd suspect someone has been in there working on this area previously. But that's just MHO.

the paint was applied at differnt stages of production, also differnt paints. at the top you can see the 'steps where they applyed an extra laying of ply. the pic taken alogn the port gunnle to the right of the pic, the transom takes off to the left. thats the top corner of the transom in the top center.

heres a pic of what I was thinking. I am listing to everything you guys are telling me, I like to entertain differnt options and ask lots of questions.....

As WOG stated earlier, segmented isn't ideal or recommended:
IMHO to replace the transom you will need to either remove the cap or cut the back 1/4 section off to gain access to it. Trying to Piece it in is NOT a good structurally sound method of doing the repair.

Nothing in the pix or the additional description changes my opinion that there's been previous work. And I completely agree w/ WOG's assessment: piecing together the structural transom is unwise.

The implication of a poorly redone transom is loss of the motor:

Or similar.

Those that board & ride in your boat, trust that you've done all that you can to ensure a safe & trouble free journey.

Boat rehab safely, but it is your boat.

Re: Anyone replace transom on a Campion Alert 180?

agggg, Not sure whats going to be more of a PITA, cutting the cap off to remove the splash well or removing the cap and sliding it a few feet ahead. I'm leaning towards cutting the cap. I'm thinking im only gonna cut 1' or so off the stringersto give me more room to work around the transom.

I called Campion and they recomended I use fir and if I cant find that to use spruce. Is there any other composite materials I can use or should I just stick with wood?

Thanks again
