Re: 1978 Sea Nymph SS160 resto

Thanks for stopping by guys. The little SN was kicked to the curb as soon as it was covered, that's the admiral's Buick parking spot inside the garage. I have some Chief parts inside for some winter tin action. I think the hull will fit inside just fine for painting.

It's a very solid frame using the heavy conduit and cheaper than the white PVC pipe. Then had my buddy help glue the puzzle all together using the all purpose PVC cement.

That sounds about right at my house too, my garage only gets weekend visitation with the boat. It's a custody battle that no married man will win.

You got your ears on WM?

How's that deck coating holding up?

Does it still look good? (pics?)

Would you use it again?

Edit:

I realize this thread is over 90 days old, and if Waterman wasn't an active member I'd have never brought it back up... but he last posted today at 3:24 pm.

I think it's a good thing to get updates later on when someone uses a new material on their boat to see if it fulfills all expectations and is long lasting... don't you Wimusky?

Where did the OP post at 3:24 PM today? Not in this topic. So this is still a topic with no activity for over 90 days, except those initiated by you Rules and Moderators advice are to be followed! There are not guidelines, these are rules for all members. Including you, JnG.

Sorry been preoccupied with the Chief restore and the new forum format isn't as handy at notifying you when you get a post on a subscribed thread.

To answer the question, the decking material has been bullet proof surviving rain, sand, mud. fish slime and everything a fishing boat takes. It looks like the day I put in on after I swab the gunk off the deck. The best part is how nice it is to bare feet, vinyl;and carpet get blistering hot and this stuff for some reason stays really cool and actually feels soft under foot.. If I have to pick a negative, I would say I don't know if I like how long it takes to cure, 4 to 6 weeks to become impervious to abrasion is a bit much.

I will get some pics when I uncover it this weekend and you can see for yourself. That is if I can stay out of the Chief long enough.

So today I pulled out the SN from it's winter nap and blew out the fogging oil so I can head out for some pre-spawn walleye on the Columbia River. I decided to take a short video of the SN and the start of it's 3rd fishing season after the restore. Some were wanting to know how the deck armor held up so far. You can see from the video it's weathered some tough days on the water and handled it just fine. One thing the admiral loves about it is how cool the surface is even in blistering sun you can go with bare feet.

Thanks for the update on the Deck Armor. When I read though your thread a while back I was wondering how it was holding up.

I'm debating Nautolex vinyl vs. products like Deck Armor for the Lone Star project.

As I recall the cost of the D-A is much less then vinyl.

Hook 'em hard.:)

Yeah Os it was less than 100 bucks for what I needed. When people read the online reviews of the DA or the Behr deck over people either love it or hate it. The ones who hate it didn't prep their old deck or follow directions even though they say they did. Jas went to town using the Behr DO on his Bowlander but I think it's still inside his garage. Putting the DA on top of a clean dry surface is key, along with using a paint stirring adapter on your drill to get it mixed right. Only draw back is the cure time, I did mine in early spring and it took like what seemed forever to cure to where it was impervious to impact or rubbing.

Well the Sea Nymph did her job but I didn't do so well. First outing of 2015 for some early February eyes was good for my buddy and the back livewell.

My first real boat resto was the little 160 SN. It was a sad day seeing her go but her replacement will do just fine and the SN went to a good home.
