Re: 1995 Monterey 225 SCR restore

If you want a lot of traffic & help/comments, probably ought to use photobucket & post pix in your thread cutting & pasting the IMG code that looks like this:
{IMG]http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg618/other%20people%20boats%20or%20pix%20info/sunk.jpg[/IMG}

And that puts the pix directly in your thread, instead of a link to an attached pix, or your other photo accts:

If you want to use this as an archive to keep track of your progress, iboats is a great place to do that too.

Welcome to the iboats dry dock, and best of luck w/ your project, its a nice looking boat.

Yeah, its unfortunate, but by posting it, another iboater helps drive home that the bilge pump backup & drain plug theory is based in experience or lack there of.......

I don't remember who's boat it is, but it is posted in a thread around here somewhere.....

I'd also suggest the OP try reading thru all the threads in Don's list: How To's and Other Great Information

Re: 1995 Monterey 225 SCR restore

I remember reading that thread, the guy had just "restored" his boat when this happened and was on a camping trip. He blamed it on bilge pump failure... I blame it on inadequate floatation, something quite a few restorers seem to overlook or ignore.

The only wood not rotten is the seating in the cabin. Oh well, I like doing this kinda stuff.

Hand pumping the rest of the fuel out took a hot minute, but at least the SUV has a full tank now.

All that was left of the trim pump bracket....a pathetic little sliver of rust.

Re: 1995 Monterey 225 SCR restore

So this is the ID plate on the flame arrestor, matches the ID plate on the engine. however, when i search the serial number it says its a '98 Bravo, but looking at the belt setup and comparing to my maintenance book says its an alpha. and whats up while the date of manufacture saying 2007? Is it a '98 design built in 2007?

Do you know what caused this mess?

Re: 1995 Monterey 225 SCR restore

drain plug in bilge leaking and the tie downs on the stern (bolts loose) oh and the wiring for the aftermarket depth finder that runs through the stern not sealed properly. Also the way monterey fiberglassed the bulkheads and stringers didnt help....bubbles and sagging everywhere made for a not so water tight deck to begin with.
