Hello, I'm new to iboats and boats in general. My dad was given a 74 Cobalt 18'BR 20 years ago in great condition but has had it stored away in his garage ever since. The engine still worked but I discoved that the wooden floor by the sides of the engine where rotten. I cut out a section of the floor to investigate and quickly discovered that rats had desided to make it thier home due to the foam being nibbled on and the huge mess. Being new to boat deck repair, I do not know if the stringers will need to be repaired. I also discovered that the top part of the bilge(floor) was being lifted underneath the engine extending about 4ft forward. I do not know if that is due to a bad stringer or a horrible attempt to fix the boat by the previous owner. The flap does go down and is solid but is being forced back up by the stringer in the center.

Re: 74 Cobalt Rotten Floor

In a situation like that you would usually replace the stringers as well. It all looked pretty rotted from the pictures.

Re: 74 Cobalt Rotten Floor

I was hoping that would not have to be the case but the more i look at it, the more sense it makes to completly rebuild. Thank you for the advise.

Hello, I have the same boat with the same problem, the board under the gas tank and under the motor is lifting up and is all rotten, I was wondering what you did to fix yours, and is there any stringers under it?, any info would be deeply appreciated

Chris made 2 posts 3.5yrs ago and never came back. He's not likely to reply.

Start a topic about your Cobalt and post some pix of it.

The guys hanging around the resto forum dry dock will help you pull it apart and rebuild it.

Welcome to iboats
