This was an earlier project. It all started with a dream, just like an old boat. There was this Great Plains Cottonwood tree trunk kicking around the city tree lot for years. I would occasionally stop and drool over the biggest log in the State of Colorado. After finding the office # there, I sweet talked a gal into selling me this log for $15. It took 6 months to hallow out the partially hallow log which is 6' diameter and 8' tall. I tried every tool I could think of to speed the removal of the center except fire. There are so many details and such it's best just to present the pictures. I find this appropriate to this forum although it is not a boat. Could have been a boat though?snow 062.jpgMisc. 011.jpgMisc. 009.jpgRoma&Lily 001.jpg

Very unique!! Great idea.

I saw a boat at a dock in a yard and it was a kids playhouse........ no water at all but it was docked and looked perfect!

Trooper82: tools: the best thing was a chainsaw head on a grinder and splitting wedge and an 8lb sledge hammer, then a custom ground chisel head on an electric jack hammer followed by another custom ground gouge on an SDS rotory hammer...the chips were flying off the log by the end. The wall thickness was maintained around 5.5". It was a bit dangerous/hazardous and very hard on this old carpenter body but worth it. Wear the right stuff like welding gloves chaps steel toed boots and face shield for anyone trying this at home!
