What the proper way to measure for a new control cable? I have a 1963 texas maid impala witha johnson 40hp electramatic outboard. Its supposed to have a single cable that goes from controls to opposite side of outboard. Seems pretty simple just measure the distance from controls to mount but I want to make sure its done right.

Re: Measuring for new control cable

the cables come in different legnths.

you measure from the control area to the back transom corner.....then from the corner to the motor area...then add 1.5 feet for slack to the motor,

take into account any place where there might be a really sharp bend in the cable,,,,and compensate with legnth.
