Added a Big Jon downrigger today. Haven't used it yet but it may come in handy for deeper walleye or salmon fishing. Used strapping again to hold down the box bracket that I made. It is solid.

Ready to get going and fish for the 2015 season. Updates for this year are installing a 30 x 40 carpeted flat floor, and adding a handline trolling reel. The floor was added for a landing pad for the dog and the trolling reel was added just for fun. The reel is probably from the 50's or 60's. Everything on the boat is still removable and adjustable without use of any drill holes or screws. Almost purchased a Aluma Craft Deep C but another guy beat me to it. I still haven't heard from anyone on the differences between the FD and Deep C models for handling. Which one is better for fishing?

I have both a Deep C and an FD. The Deep C is a lot more boat and I much prefer it.

I found one of these Alumicraft boats for about 150 including trailer, it needs lights for the trailer and some small detailing but it's worth it, we also just were handed a 15 foot canoe from our neighbors so we really have our hands full with boats now ......pics to follow later. Keep up the great work and I'll be looking at the posts for hints and ideas.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad someone chimed in on the Deep C vs FD questions. A know that River Runner has said many times that the FD is an outstanding boat for handling and maneuvering vs other bigger boats. I agree, but have often wondered about the 15' and wider width of the Deep C or Open C. I've seen many Deep C's for sale in other states, but not many in Michigan. I'm more interested in fishing so if I bought one I would operate it with a tiller and no windshield. I have yet to see an "open c" for sale. The Open C would be my first choice, but could be difficult to locate....

That's a great price for the boat. Is it an FD model? Those are the ones with the "aqueduct transom." Very strong transom and solid boat for a 14'.

Latest new addition to the FD is a 10 hp Johnson. It's a QD 17 which makes it a 1956 model. I searched around until I found one in half way decent shape. Paints a little rough but the engine has not been abused. I went through the motor and replaced the all the standard stuff. Runs great and has a real solid feel to the motor. It's not as smooth and quiet as the 5 1/2 Johnson but it will get you where you need to be a lot faster. The year of the boat and motor are now a matched set that was offered in 1956. So depending on conditions or usages, I have the 1968 20 hp, 1960 5 1/2, and the 1956 10 hp all Johnsons.
