Anybody got a leaning post that hinges open at the top?

I cut the top of my leaning post off. I am planning to hinge it at the back side above the livewell to make storage access from the top. I don't like small doors on the side.

What i have to figure out is how to reinforce the box so it can take a beating and not come apart. does anyone have any pictures of one that is similar to this.
