So hello everyone, I am new. My friend Isaacm1986 has been helping me with my boat restoration and has suggested I post the progress here on iboats.

I have a 1978 17ft Fiberform I am in the middle of restoring. The boat was given to me after sitting in a barn for a few years. The galvanized trailer under it was also given to me from someone on craigslist who was just giving it away. Great find I must say.

Anyway, the boat had a rotted deck, rotted stringers, rotted transom, and all water logged foam. We separated the cap from the boat, ripped out the deck, stingers and foam. We then got most of the transom out.

We also got all the hardware stripped from the cap and getting it ready to paint.

Progress is slow, and budget for the boat is very tight. But surely and slowly it will get done.

I will try to bring you up to speed with some pictures. They are taken with my cell phone (only camera i have) and so they might not be very good.

Any comments, ideas, and thoughts, are always appreciated.

Re: 1978 Fiberform 17ft Restoration

I have one question.

I have a bunch of 2x6 fir decking leftover from a project. I am thinking about using it as the deck of the boat, and then glassing over the top to seal all cracks. Carpet will be going over the top of it, so I am not worried about how it looks. I know most of you guys use 3/4" plywood and glass that in. Just thought if i could use up some material i have, then i would. Let me know what your thoughts on this idea are.

Thanks.

I should clarify, it is 2x6 T&G car-decking i am considering using.

Thanks.

That's a real sharp looking boat. I gotta say, I like the green. Got a classic look to it. Don't like Isaac paint it black. What are thinking for a motor?

HAHA EZ..I PROMISE not to paint it black! It just won't happen! I used up the last of the black on my starcraft. You won't see another black boat from me for a long while!

Last I talked to him he was going to repaint the cap a blue, but those thoughts might of changed. I am not sure.

What do you guys think of the T&G idea? We were talking about it on the phone last night, and I think it is kind of a interesting idea. I personally don't see why not, but am I missing something on why not use it?
