After taking a little time here and a little time there I finally finished to read through your thread WOG I see you have done some nice work here and there is lot's of good info. I thought I made a post earlier during my reading:facepalm: Thanks for sharing your project with us WOG. Glad you are feeling better and looking for some more updates. I started my upholstery again last week and have been pulled away again, but this time it wasn't because I needed a break. It is more serious and they need me there, but I will have it on the water this summer:)

Hey WOG,

It's been a couple of months since I've checked in. I've been spending time on the motor forums trying to get my Merc up to speed (pun intended).
The bench is looking good. Sorry you've been ill. But I'm glad to see you're getting back on your feet.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks to all of you for checking in. I work on a 9-80 schedule at work. 8-9hr days and 1-8hr day to get 80 hours in in two weeks which gives me every other Friday Off. This Friday is my Friday off. According to the Weather man we are to be in the 60's and 70's this weekend so... I have told everyone in my Family, that barring medical emergencies etc... I was going to be UNAVAILABLE cuz I WAS going to be working on the "Blue Flamingo". I hope to fiinish the rear seat frame and get it painted as well as the bases for the front seats. Wish me Luck. Seems like FOREVER since I've got anything done on her.

yay! sorry to hear you have been so busy, but glad to know you might get some time soon to work on it. I miss your updates, really looking forward to seeing the seats finished. put a do not disturb sign on the shop and connect a power cord to the door handle to deter any offenders!

Glad for the update, it's so frustrating when you can't get at the boat! Hope the planets line up so you can have your warm weekend to work on it!

Hey Wood,
I am very Happy that you are feeling better! That is great news...
Even better news is that you have PRE-warned the familial units of an impending day of being incommunicado and burying your nose in the "Flamingo".
May the force be with you and may you get all you wish to be accomplished, and maybe a little more...

Hey Wood,
Good to see you up and back at it. I have been loving the weather here. Last weekend had 3 days in the upper 60's and 1 @ 75.
But don't you know here in Texas all you have to do is wait a day and it will be 29 degress again.
Good luck on your work this Friday.

Well our weatherman was off just a bit. Only got to 40? today. Shop was a tad chilly but I did not fire up the propane heater, I just toughed it out with numb fingers. I got the BenchSeat fabricated and dry assembled. Still need some final adjustments put pretty close. Trying to determine if I need a center brace. I'm thinkin yes but will make that decision once its more complete. The back of the seat will be raised so that it sits about 1" below the top of the base seat. I will be using aluminum angle pieces bolted to the bottom of the frame to lift it up about 1/2" off the deck and then use those to attach the frame to the deck. Here
s some pics of my progress today.

I also fabricated a pyramid platform for my front seats. I'm going to be making top and bottom plates and a solid 3" x 3" middle core with a 3/4" pvc pipe inserted to accomodate the seat posts. Hard to explain but you will see it when I get it further along. Just in case you're interested. To make a pyramid you cut the bottom and top @ 45? and the sides are angled @ 30? and beveled @ 37.26? Here's a dry fit of how it turned out.

Gunna try to get the other Pyramid fabbed and both assembled. Hopefully it'll warm up tomorrow or Sunday and I can get em epoxied and Painted.

Most excellently & well spent time w/ numb fingers:)

How tall is that pyramid? And the seat posts you'll use.

I had thought to use a square wooden 6-8" sq box @4" tall w slide/swivel flat seat mounts to keep the helm seat low like it was originally, just a change of seat type (plus slide/swivel). I don't have enough room to have more then a 4" rise under the seat mount I'd like to use. May end up loosing the slide & swivel, but I'd prefer that, even if it's a deviation from stock.

But I like the pyramid much better, more surface area for weight & load transfer & better for glassing on to the deck.

LOVE the bench seat! I'll beat you'll be happier w/ a center brace added. Depends on the # & weight of the crew though........

May the weather gods bring you clear & warmer skies this weekend!

Yep Southern Yellow Pine. Gettin 2 coats of epoxy and then two coats of Valspar with Hardener. It'll all be OFF The deck so I'm guessing I'll last for Decades.

Hey Wood did you use a dado blade for the lap joint on the back braces. Glue together and then cut the radius at the bottom? Thats nice work I got to get me some more/better tools!

Wood, your craftsmanship is second to none! I love that frame and the wood working skills that went into it. I warned the Admiral tonight that thanks to you we may be looking at a sewing machine in our future :O

I only wish it was in the 40's today, our high hit 18.
