Spar Varnish vs Epoxy

Ok I need help! Do I have to use an epoxy before I apply my spar varnish? I am trying to look at a more traditional finish. I am retoring a 1962 Starcraft Holiday and have laminated mahogany to the gunwhales and bow and have built a solid mahogany cabin and now it is time to prep for a finish what to do?

You don't *have* to, no. You CAN, if you want to and if you'd like the finish to last an extra long time.

Thank You so much for the article! Reading that made it clear as water! If I can achieve a finish that is more durable and less labour intense,it only makes sense to brighten with West System 105 / 207 and only have to do 3 coats of epoxy and 3 coats of Spar! Thank You again!
