Well, it's been 3 full seasons since I did my rebuild on my Sunray. After some thought process I've decided to freshen up the old girl. Not that I'm not happy with what I did, but after reading endless threads on everyones great work I want to go back and do better. I'm going to repaint the whole boat, again with Interlux Brightsides. I'm staying with the white and blue but I'm going with a darker blue and more blue on the bottom. I want to do something with the seats as well, perhaps making my own back to back seats. I also purchased from ebay another OMC control unit. Mine broke last year the last day I was out. Also since I installed my CMC power trim unit, I've had issues with raising the motor because of the engine being moved 6" back. I've decided to go with a tilt tube steering but my cable is freaking 4" too short. So I'm going to purchase a whole new steering unit for it. I have a small crack on top of my transom next to the moulding where the motor normally sits. So I have to repair that. I also ordered all new suspension, axle, wheels, tires and fenders from KMT trailer parts, so I will be freshening up my trailer as well. And I am thinking of doing some painting on the trailer as well, maybe to match my boat. I'm also thinking of raising the whole windshield 4-6" higher than what it is now. Not sure what to do there. Also tinting the glass. I may paint my motor as well, again matching it with my boat. I will include here a couple of pics for those who aren't familiar with me or my boat. I am open to suggestions from you great fellow boaters. I'm looking for some ideas and thoughts on the above work.

This is when I first bought it.

Cool, looking forward to the updates{not that there's anything wrong now ;) }

I do have one suggestion that would be sooooooo sweet...build a huge guest quarter's and invite us all up for a weekend or two think-tank :D

From the before til current photo's, doesn't look like you need any help in the creative arena, but just to be safe, maybe just a few{20 -30 or so} of us can make the trip.

Tint the windows blue. That's pretty much all I can think of at the moment. I liked the boat the first time I saw the finished product-I still like it now.

the boat looks great i dont think it needs a thing,
however the one in the weeds in your "the way it looks now" pic looks to need some serious help,
i do like the tint the glass blue idea.
Whateveer you come up with, i look forward to seeing it unfold.

Hey Hopeshefloats, this is my think tank:

This is why I lug my poor boat over 9 miles of bumpy, muddy road to get to every weekend. My serenity.

Blue glass tint. Hmm. Like the whole windshield or that stuff that starts at the bottom?

I'm also working on an ip cam so you all can live view me working on it. Not that's it exciting but something different. The problem I have is it will be outdoors and between the weather. I'm thinking of building a tarp shelter when I flip it.

That boat is fine...you should get a Starcraft that needs a restoration:p

Just kidding, look forward to see what you do with the Sunray. Blue tinted windshield sounds interesting.:)

Did you take your window frame off to paint it? or did you do it whie it was on the boat?

I would rather see regular tint than blue, but thats just my opinion.

Oops! could have probably financed his boat if he had ran a webcam while he was building it....could have sold enough ad space to probably have financed it a couple of times over as many hits as that cam would have gotten considering the traffic his single thread alone has generated

Painting that was a project by itself. Hours of masking just to have the spray paint run like crazy. The frame had some grease or something on it. Even after cleaning, same thing. I had to sand it and actually used a brush on black urethane that levelled very nice.

Actually J, I think you may have the next bigger model than mine. Yours looks like the Sunray Bonita. It should be 15' long, 76" beam, 36" depth. Hp rating of 70hp and weighs around 750lbs. They are rare. I think yours is the first one I've seen, actually. If you give me the HIN number I can tell you exactly what you have. HIN number is located on the top right side of the outside of the transom. This tells you everything about your boat.

Tallcanadian- Can't wait to see what you do with the boat. The second time around should be the charm!
I love the cabin- I can see how that offers you some serenity!

After you get the windows tinted you'll have to hang a huge black outboard off the back to balance the colors. :D

Hey Hopeshefloats, this is my think tank:

Man, what a sweet piece of the planet you've got there...I 'think' I'm getting 'tank'ed* just thinking about the splendor

Nice think tank. I sit on the toilet to think :) Yours is a much better place to find serenity.

Your boat resto looks great...night and day.

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Just recently received my trailer parts. New axle, tires, fenders, spring. Way too excited. Now I just need a wee bit warmer weather to get my boat started. Hopefully this weekend coming. I'm going to paint the axle and springs with black rust paint, unless, someone may have some other ideas? I'm thinking of going with blue and white on the trailer to match the boat. Thanks to the kind folks at KMT trailer parts.
