Keep up the great work. Im trying for saturday to spray gelcoat but have to see if it will spray without being thinned. I have considdered just using acetone if I have to but I really need to wait if I do have to thin it till I can get patchaid. We both set scheduals for ourselves but we need to take the time to make sure it is right no matter how bad we want to go have fun playing with our boats. At least you can sit in yours and make cool boating sounds. Yesterday I had to crawl under mine (being upside down) and remove the transom eyes, while I was under there I Looked up at the nice new floor waiting eagerly for me to put a seat on it and go vroom vroom splash.

It doesn't seem like I got much done last night but it took quite a bit of time to mark all of my floor points and make the reference lines for when I have to cut them.
I got in my two cross supports and glassed up one side on each with two layers of mat.
I also closed off the front open section that led to under the bow with a layer of strand and a layer of mat.
Where can I locate a big piece of cardboard to use as a template for my deck?Here are the pics from last night. You can see in the pics the black permanent marker line- this will be the top of the stringer.

While I was waiting for the resin to set up I started taking out the foam pieces that could come out. I broke the bond between the plastic tape and resin with a scraper all the way along the foam on both sides and the came out fairly easily.

It looks like the seacast is going to be pushed back a week. I still haven't even had time to make a template of the deck yet- I'd like to lay the deck in place it make sure there are no high spots before I pour the seacast. I want to measure twice and cut once if you know what I mean.

Where would be a good place to find/who sells a big piece of cardboard for a deck template.

My dad sells corrugated boxes for PCA so getting a hold of large sheets has always been easy for me. So I'd say find a box plant near you. My dad's company has a plant in your general and I'm sure there are others as well. Mick..again great work!

Maybe a UPS Store if you have one around. Or Staples? They sell boxes. We have a ton of storage places around here..ya know the ones where people get evicted and there stuff gets thrown to the curb..they usually rent a unit to store there junk...Those places sell boxes as well.

Looks good Mick! I bought my cardboard in 4x8 sheets at a local moving box store...works great.

I would check Lowes or home depot for refrigerator boxes from display models. If they fail ask areound at appliance stores or furnature stores.

Thanks guys! I will call around tomorrow and hopefully pick something up tomorrow night.
Tonight I am going to try and get glassed all the odds and ends stuff that hasn't been done yet. That way tomorrow I can pick up my ply and cardboard and try and get the extra fiberglass cut down so I can get my deck template down.
Here's a question. What happens if there are some high or lows spots(1/4-1/2") around the edges of the deck board- what kind of adhesive do I use to bring that up and to attach the deck to the stringers with?

My deck laid pretty flat but I laid strips of matt down on the stringers and crossbeams, wet them out, then screwed my deck down to the stringers while it was still wet. That way the screws were sealed where they went thru. then I glassed over the top of the heads. If I had needed to fill any voids I would have used long strand fiberglass (my new favorite product)

Mick I used west systems 6 ten to glue the edges of mine down. I also screwed the plywood to the seacast beam in the middle. (and glued) Great stuff but pricey!

The moving truck companies...Uhaul, Pennsky, etc. also sell moving boxes...the large wardrobe boxes make a fairly large sheet when broken down flat.

Well hold on- seacast may still be on for this weekend! We have off on Monday so my buddy and I may do it early Monday morning if I don't get done with everything by Sunday.

Last night turned out to be better than expected. I got all the fiberglassing work on the hull and stringers done! While I was waiting for it to cure I got all my split wood in the garage- and I'm up to about 20 pallets now too.

After everything was cured I even got to pull all the foam out. I used a 1.5' scraper to loosen the sides and then a hammer to pop it up. Everything came out real easy and the fiberglass is firm.

I also pollied the tabs back on my inner transom skin so that is ready to go.

(I don't remember that last time I went to bed before 2am!)

Tonight I plan on getting the fiberglass cut down to the marks and to hopefully get the deck template done. If I have time I will put in the inner transom skin too.

I am getting my cardboard from uhaul today after work

We'll see what I get done tonight with the deck template- that should determine if seacast goes in this weekend or not!

micks, another reason I would hold off on cutting the fiberglass till after the seacast is that the process of cutting the glass could break or weaken the glass by the vibration of cutting it. Also the seacast will self level to a point so it would be easier to know where to cut the tops off for your deck. If you do cut it first be careful not to let it get banged around much at all.

Now I finally understand what the heck you've been doing!!!

Wouldn't you pretty much have to cut all the glass-tabs to be even and level ahead of time so you know how much seacast to pour in? You can't exactly trim that stuff after the fact.

That is the way i did mine, worked out great. I just cut them about 1/8" short to allow for the glass cap I put on when the seacast set up. Looking good Mick, I just found out I should get my motor in about a week!

Ezombee- you just realized- I just realized to after I pulled all the foam- I let out a big sigh of relief when I looked and saw the end product.

Skibum- I'm gonna cut everything before hand just for the simple fact of "human error." if my markings are off just a bit then my floors gonna be all messed up and eneven. By cutting them before I can ensure that there are now high spots from side to side and front to back by using a straight to double check.

Archbuilder- Nice that the motor is gonna be done soon! My uni-charger came today. I have to post the pics of my great find then!

Putting our little guy to bed and then I'll be heading out.

Oh- I also picked up my ply for the deck tonight. I went with 3/4( prob overkill) BC grade Douglas fir. I intend to glass it with at least two layers on top and one on the bottom.

Bob- I'll see if I can do a video or two on the seacast also! I'm taking a little break right now(the belly was screamin at me!).

Ezombee- that would be a good place to hide- the hull is 100x's firmer already. Throw in the seacast and foam and it will be like a little tank! I have a friend that went to York college.
