I have a homemade 18ft. flatbottom with a 1970 70HP merc longshaft and stick steering. The motor height is set where the cavitation plate is about even with the bottom.

The problem is that the stick requires about a good 15 lbs of push or pull to steer when running about 23 mph and nicely planed off.

This seems like too much, or maybe I'm just not being realistic.

Motor pivot is perfect, and the steering cable and stick assembly are new.

What should I check? Or.......should I jest get a longer stick ? ;o)
