I know you're supposed to use acetone after you sand your surface down that you are going to glass to, to clean it. I have paint thinner at the house, which is much cheaper than acetone. Is it ok to use paint thinner for prepping a surface? Thanks

For a final wipe-down I think it is a good idea to to use the solvent that the manufacturer recommends for thinning the material to be applied.
Anything else could leave fine residue rejecting the applied layer.

Paint thinner is oily. Do not use it.

Acetone is also used to thin fiberglass resin before it is set up..... it mixes with fiberglass but has no effect of dried fiberglass except as a cleaner.

I believe walmart carries it too and it is not too bad for cost.

Ayuh,...

Mineral Spirits,.. Aka; Paint Thinner doesn't really Flash Off,... It kinda lingers...

Acetone will Flash Off leaving Nothing before you're even done wiping...
