Pick it up for a liitle of nothing. Came with trailer. Nice boat but I knew it needed work. It's going to need new stringers and floor. Reading all of the stringer peanut butter bedding post, I was wondering if anyone has used cork before. I have tons of this stuff from my model railroad hobby and they are just the right width for up to 1" ply.

I can't say that I have. Hang on tight! I think there's going to be some discussion over this one! :D

Nice find especially for the little of nothing price. Trailer's probably worth what you paid if the price was that low.

It comes in 3ft double strips. 1/2" each.

Peanut butter provides a structural bond to the hull and a separation buffer between the wood stingers and fiberglass hull. Cork only will provide a separation buffer.

Note: I may be wrong and I am far from being an expert on this...:)

BTW: Nice boat! Show some more pics...the good, the bad, and the ugly!

I picked it up for $300. The price for the trailer, boat and motor came with it. Teak is in outstanding condition and the wife liked the cuddy.

Just exactly what do you plan on using this cork for? I certainly hope you don't plan on using it for any structural integrity cause' nothing will bond to it.

I've read in here where some use strips of foam to keep from having hard spots in the hull. It take resin readily. Just a thought.

Ok! Your thinking of useing the cork under your stringers when you glass them in?

I can get it to turn over but I haven't had it started yet. I have to get rid of about 20 gallons of who know how old fuel. I want to go to an outboard with a bracket because that is all i know. I can't find a complete rebuid kit for the mercruiser 140 that is in it. Is it worth the rebuild?

I prefer an outboard. Inboards don't do it for me! I don't care much for the upkeep required with the outdrive and inboard engine.

Nice cuddy. Its going to be a great project. I might be a little partial here, but I think it would look good with a hard top......

The stringers in the boat are only 3/4". Should I leave them at 3/4" or double them up?

Found the culprit for all the wet foam. Notches were cut to allow the water to drain but they were glassed over. This would explain the 50 lbs of water logged foam.

Re: 1985 Cobia Odyssey rebuild

Well guys finally have time to start on the boat again. Needs of the US Navy has put a big damper in my plans. I have come to the decision to convert to outboard using a armstrong bracket. More pics to come as soon as I get my materials together.
