2006 tracker pro v livewell pump issues

I have a 2006 Tracker Pro V-16 fishing boat. The livewell pump turns on but no water is being pumped you have to either drive the boat backwards or physically force water at the intake to make it start pumping. my queation is is there a check valve that needs to be replaced or is it all inside of the pump. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If the line from the pump to livewell has a hump in it, it can air-lock the pump. When the boat is at rest, the pump should fill with water, so the pump can push water.

My Attwood Tsunami livewell pump started doing what you describe, just before it locked up and went bad. Wouldn't push water unless I primed the pump. I replaced the pump and haven't had issues since.
