First post, looking at a clean 1986 Blue Fin 18' with a 90 HP Yamaha 2 stroke
Question is, the owner has 2 gas tanks up high on the transom, (left/right) is this right?
Was there a single tank on these? located behind the sliding doors in stern?
Thanks

Yes, its unlikely Bluefin used 2 high mounted tanks originally, much more likely to have had just 1 below the splashwell behind the sliding screen.

Whatever tank you buy to fit the area on deck will do. Try to center it. I always like as much fuel as possible.

Yeah, I see Mueller has some...
Any risk of leaving tanks up high on transom

Welcome aboard, Idaho.

I tried to enlarge and it won't let me. The sideways pics - No idea.

That is not where the tanks should be. They don't look strapped down, are they? Inventive PO, but not a good one.

Won't the tanks fit under the splashwell?

Thanks
OK figured it out, click on pics and they enlarge/needed to resize in my editor- good to go

Not sure about fitment, PO tells me that was original tanks...
BF has been very well taking care of and for $4K it get me in the water
I can rectify tanks if they will fit under splashwell, is this dangerous as is ???

My 88' Bluefin 19' Sportsman (18'10") had the tank in the nose. It is a 19 gallon tank. If yours had one, it would liekly have the metal clips (one on each side) or the remnants of them. You can zsee them in this pic... clipping over the tank to help hold in place.

Render,
Thanks for pic, My offer to buy is contingent on passing a leak down test on yamaha motor.
From the info I've got so far from here I am going to dig a little deeper and really look hard at flooring under splashwell area.
I might be missing this weakness as the reason for the tanks not being under there or they just wanted more storage?
PO is like the 3rd. Or 4th. Owner, so it may be the way he got it as well and didnt know better?

I will look under bow area as well to chech for tank there
As long as flooring is ok, I am not to worried about relocating or buying tank (s) to put behind screens
I have learned alot from this forum so far
I really dont think there is a big cost impact here for gas tanks is there?

It is likely the original tank and/or hose degraded to the point of not being usable. Instead of fixing it either out of laziness of thriftyness, they opted for the tanks you see now. Why not below? Perhaps easier to fill, they had the short line on hand and it wouldn't reach if left lower. Perhaps they were worried about tank venting in the enclosed area and igniting.

I'd guess it was more of a jury rig and go fishing kind of thing. I have seen some go with a belly tank placed where the ski locker is. FOr me, I want to stick with the front mounted tank to offset the weight and help with the boat getting on plane and how it sits when fishing.

Well, yeah PO finally admitted he moved tanks from under splashwell
The screen doors are open to the left and will not budge?
Noticed oil stain back in there he claims he spilled 2 stroke oil
That and the screen doors not budging has me wondering about floor in area?
The floor against transom was warped up a little?

Performed leak down test, center cylinder was 18-20% on 3 tries
The other 2 cylinders were rock steady with no leakage?
Not feeling vey warm and fuzzy?
