Been lurking for a long time, i think i got a good deal on a older starcraft semi v, it came with a ezloader trailer and a 20hp johnson with a center console, i have no idea what the console came off of but the shifter says evinrude. got it all for $500.00 and it does have titles to trailer and boat.

Here is my boat, should i keep the console or go tiller? Also note the drain plug is in the bottom of the boat and not in the transom, anyone got an idea on what model it maybe? all the title says is a 1962 Starcraft 14 foot. I am also redoing the decks and adding 2 more seats and a paint job as well.

welcome to the Forum! In my opinion, your boat is older than 1962. I think it is a 1958ish Ski Champ that has had a bowectomy and made into a fishing boat. the oak gunnels are of that vintage for many of the starcrafts, but they would have the castings at the junction of thegunnels and the transom. A modified Ski Champ would not. Look for evidence that it once had a runabout dash. I noticed the old cable pulleys and springs that tell me this could have once been a run about. Do you know how to get to the StarCraft section brochures?

Great to see you put her back on the water in whatever form works for you. Looks like someone put some work into that console modification, so why not freshen it up and use it? Only have to please yourself.

Thank you for the information, no i dont know how to get to the StarCraft section brochures. Also there is no bench seat brackets past the one in front of the console and the springs and cable pulleys are on both sides of the transom, i will research the ski champ :)

B, I bet there is a seat bracket there in front of you gas can under that carpet????. There were floatation boxes made of galvanized steel under each mahogany seat plank. Keep digging and make her how you want.

You are correct ssdale, there is only 2 sets of seat brackets one set in the back and one set middle, also the console was blocking a metal looking box that is made on to the boat on the right hand side looking from the back forward, i think that is where the remote controls went for shift and throttle. The measurments match the ski champ, bonanza and seafarer. It is not the seafarer because there is not enough seat brackets and none have been removed, there is no rivet's installed anywhere else except in the 2 locations. The boat measures 13' 7" from bow to transom and 48" across the transom and 60" across the beam and the widest point. Also there is nothing under the seat boards, they look to have been replaced at one point.

So here is my plans for the boat being it has been butchered :( I'm sure i would never find all the parts to restore her back to a ski champ, so I'm going to make her into a center console fishing boat, i have a 12/24v motor guide brute 3400 bow mount trolling motor i will add, and also add 2 more seats one in the front and one in the back on pedestal's. Refinish all the wood work, new paint, new interior, add nav lights and a fish finder. The boat seems rock solid and no dents any where, no missing or loose rivets and haven't found any cracks or holes, PO last used it this spring before getting his new big glass bass boat.

Sounds like one heck of a plan. These hulls are super strong and will be here basically forever with a little care. The removed dash and cap did play a structural role in adding rigidity to the gunnels. I noticed they left a pretty decent section of the bow cap that helps with this purpose, also the seat planks. Just something to keep in mind. Good Luck and you will have a vessel that will do everything you need for pennies on the dollar.:thumb:

Got a start on the boat, took out all the old flooring and that high casting deck way to unstable, was able to get rid of a bunch of extra weight doing away with all the 2x4's. the 2 new seats arrive friday for the front and back. All i got left to do is marine varnish the wood and carpet but that has to wait until my next check, here is what i have done to make the boat comfy for us.

Good idea to keep your weight low. These boats are tough as nails but not very deep. You'll get a lot of fun outta her for not much $
