I'm starting to work on the transom and ran into some rivets that I'm unsure of how to remove. I was thinking I could grind them off or punch a divot in them and drill them out. Any tips or tricks would be nice. Will post some pic of the rivets.

I use a 1/2in 135deg bit and drill off the head of rivets, the dome side.

A sharp chisel will often knock the head off too.

Either way, yep, punch the rivet thru towards the buck tail side.

If you have a topic about the boats rehab, you could have asked this there, that way members can see what you're working on..... Not just a pix of a rivet...

So finally got all the rivets out for the sides and the back off. Started pulling the metal off around the transom the top part looked really good but after pulling the metal off underneath I found the wood was rotten and just disintegrated so I guess it's a good thing I decided to fix it. Now to clean it all up. Also get some wood and make a template for the new transom. I'm planning on coating the transom with fiberglass or epoxy. Any tips to what is better easier to work with? also thinking while I have this open replace the gas lines and redo the wiring and the water lines. Anyone have any suggestions on a wiring kit?

Yeah that's a rotten transom alright and the top being good makes for so many denials, good for you moving past that and tearing the rot out.

So hows the decking look?

When I got the boat 3 years ago I replaced the carpet and floor as it had something holes in it. About the middle of the seson last year is saw about a 1/8 to 3/16 gap develop between the pan and the back. So pulled it out of storage early to get it ready for spring.

Going to start on some wiring and have a bus bar and fuse panel on order. What to know have looked at most of my loads and am going to need 12 gage wire. Does the color matter? I have a roll of 12/3 wire the stuff you can use to make cords out of it is exterior rated, oil, uv resistant and cold Weather rated. Would this be ok to use I will only need 7 wire run so 2 would take care of most of the run. Is it better to get all the different colors?

Your fuse panel doesn't have a neg side too? I too ran 12 ga pos / neg to my fuse panel. Color will only matter if someone else gets the boat. I had a bunch of 12 ga red and a small amount of black so I soldered 2 feet of black on each end sealing with epoxy lined heat shrink tube. So that way the terminal connections are showing black while the run is red. I'd use it if it were me, nothing wrong with good 12 ga copper that one already has on hand. Are the colors blk/wht/grn?

I'm sure someone will come along and say you have to use some sort of marine tinned wire. For connectors/terminals I do like the anchor marine ones, the AL in them is thicker than standard auto terminals.

After a couple weeks have the transom cut out 4-1/2" pices, glued and screwed together. Now to get some resin and seal it all up.
So next question leave the back like it was or add in 2 seat and a storage area. Have to get the motor to verify something but think it will work. See picture for what it looked like before and a rough mock-up. Let me know what you think or other idea's.

New transom looks good. That was quite the ugly mess in the stern. You can take a look at my SS rebuild and see how my aft section looks. The Starcraft section has a ton of rebuilds with some great ideas.
