It's a good thing to have guys who know chiming in about such things as control placement but there's always a work around for these little issues. As long as there's enough room for throttle manipulation then you'll get used to the placement or figure something else out. My suggestion for the seat clearance is to get a seat slide that mounts on top of the pedestal, that could give you just enough room to keep the seat free of the controls.

The motor looks really nice BTW. :D

Well guys, I can't believe it'd been over 9 months since I started this journey. ( based on bowling lasts 34 weeks) I'm really anticipating the maiden voyage this weekend and I believe I can make the deadline. Carpet is officially completed. The I'll install the Speedo and depth finder tonite then reinstall the seat boxes and seats. A little gas and perhaps even a drain plug.

I lied, the carpet isn't done. ( pic) The depth locator instructions were pretty adamint about location for mounting the transducer. Somebody was in a hurry and mounted the Speedo sending unit right where it would have been perfect to mount the depth sounder transducer. Since they didn't say I couldn't, I mounted it right next to the Speedo. The lines for the depth and speed installed and buried easily enough so I got that done. I thought the depth gauge was going to be a complicated electronic nightmare to a simple old me but after "reading the instructions", it doesn't seem like it'll mess with me to bad. Called in sick for tomorrow so I can get this in the water before company starts to arrive for the opening weekend of Wisconsin Summer. By the way, that will be Captain Jeff's hat when we launch her. My wife got it at a rummage sale for a Quarter (trying to keep the expenses down you know)

Its amazing how fast you can start feeling good on a sick day. One of my sons showed up early on Thurs evening so I put him to work helping me change the steering cable. That is definitely not a one man job when you don't know what you are doing. It took a bit more time than anticipated so we stopped after that job was complete. Friday came and I looked around and no one was watching so back to the Garage I went. My son-in-law wandered over and next thing I know we were locating where the bolts needed to be on the swivels to be able to locate the holes in the seat boxes when It was time to do the final mount. Then we had to fasten the swivels to the seat bottoms. The seat boxes mounted to the floor just as they were designed to do. Then it was time to do the final attachment of the seat assemblies to the boxes. We took a break and talked about it and couldn't see any reason not to put her in the water. So we did. It took a little bit to get It fired up and running enough to try a test run. Since I was not to sure about the controls, I had my son in law push the boat away from the dock so I could just turn the wheel and head out away from shore. Remember what I said about the cable and not knowing what we were doing, I turned the wheel and gave her a little gas and the boat headed straight toward the dock. With extremely large eyes I turned the wheel sharper and it still was heading for a rough landing. My son in law saved the day and after I settled down I realized we had wound the cables back asswards. Driving that boat to my dock by steering the wrong way to go the right way was quite the experience. Anyway we landed, fixed the cables, and tried the maiden voyage but only got 250 ft and had to get towed back. Guys, I'll be here for a while yet. Till next post

Thank You, I appreciate that. It's been sitting on that lift since I put it in the water. By the time the mechanic did the repairs and took it for a test ride, the sky's opened up and decided to give the Great Lake region back all that water its been borrowing for the past 15 plus years. We seem to be averaging 5 inches a week. The storms are particularly harsh with high winds and lots of rain. I'm expecting a sunny Saturday with mid 70's and low winds this weekend. Fingers Crossed!

Believe it or not, today I finally got the break in the weather and work schedule and uncovered the boat with determination. I was going to take it out or bust. She's been sitting for a couple weeks so being the inexperienced soul that I am, I had no trouble flooding out a cold blooded and carburated old engine. I finally remembered to do the squeeze the bulb thing and got er running(kinda). I'm not ashamed to admit I am clueless about boat engines, and Not real sure how it should sound back there, but If I put my limited knowledge to work, I'd say it was loaded up and running kinda doggy. I saw 25 on the Speedo which made me happy to see a gauge working, and not to pleased cause I feel I was at least close to full throttle. All and all, I'm pleased it didn't sink and I didn't need to be towed in. The pics all seem to show the front end out of water, is that good or bad. It seems to take a lot of throttle to get it to plane also. Any thoughts? I'm going to clean the plugs tomorrow and give it another try. Till then!

That is such a beautiful boat. You did a wonderful job restoring it. Good luck getting the engine tuned.

Congrats on the real deal splash this time, glad the weather was nice for you. I bet she turned some heads at the dock too.

Yeah you're supposed to get the bow of the boat up and out with only the last few feet of the hull in the water when on a plane.

Congratulations, that has turned into a nice looking boat. The boat looks like it is riding right to me. The speed seems maybe a bit low. My 15.5 ft aluminum with a 40 hp runs about 28 GPS at full throttle with 2 people in the boat, but I also have 3 big batteries in the boat. I would check the speed with gps, those speedometers can be easily off by a few mph.
