Yeah no kidding. You have to love the big box stores that stay inside the box.

They custom ordered oak 1x4x16 for me at our local lumberyard. I then took them to a woodworking buddy who ripped them down to 3.5 and planed them to 5/8 like the originals. Had about $125 in the 4 of them when finished. If you put your splices towards the rear, you may be able to get by. IMHO I would keep trying to source the right materials if your going to the trouble. Just an opinion.

Well I believe I found the motor I want to put on the boat. I have been looking on and off for a motor that is close to period correct. The boat came with a 55 hp evinrude and that is way too over sized. I found a Mercury Mark 55 at a reasonable price, the motor just happens to come with another boat and trailer.

Well I have started back on the project, still have not found the 14' white oak material for the gunnels but have gotten started on the motor. Strip it down to the block, new fuel pump kit and fuel lines, carbs removed disassembled and rebuilt, mag tower pulled and new top bearing, new timing belt. Lower unit will get pulled and new bearings and seals and water pump kit. Will get back to boat work when the snow flies or after I shoot a buck.

They custom ordered oak 1x4x16 for me at our local hometown lumberyard. I then took them to a woodworking buddy who ripped them down to 3.5 and planed them to 5/8 like the originals. I think almost any lumberyard can order that dimension clean oak for you and probably even rip them down. Our little town is only 2600 people. Then you'll have them when the snow is flying! JMHO. Good luck with Deer season.

Well the project has been put on hold and possibly ended. I found an Alumacraft flying D project at a can't pass up price.

Yeah the boat will stay in the upper garage and be on hold, for now I have 5 boats and only room for 3, something has got to go.
