Hi there, I will start off by introducing myself as I am new to the Fourm.

I am Taylor, a Cadet at Maine Maritime Academy. I am 20 years old an live in Greenville Maine on Moosehead Lake. I have a lot of wrenching experience but my outboard and boating experience is limited to my old 1973 6hp Johnson and a POS 11' aluminum boat.

Now to the resto project. I found an old 15' Mirro on craigslist in my home town. it has a 1971 Evinrude Ski Twin 40 on it. I am unsure of the year of the boat and I am relying on my dad to forward me the information on the name plate. I am shipped out for another month in the gulf of mexico so I am trying to get some information before I get home. I have a number stamped on the outside of the stern. It is B 2 4 1 2 1 8 but have not idea what it is. It is a closed bow aluminum boat with two bench seats. I will post some pictures later on today. I plan to restore the boat and motor and understand that it is a very time and money intensive project but I am very excited about it. I picked the Boat motor and trailer up for a mere 200$ so I figured I couldn't lose.

I would appreciate any information, advice, links, comments or concerns that you may have.

Here are some pictures of it. I am having my dad get some better pictures of the whole boat tomorrow.

My general impression is early-mid 60s

Its not likely to have a HIN stamped on the transom, but look anyway.

The B# you posted is likely a model#, serial# or both

Look thru the info posted here:

Compare the specs of yours and that B# to the listed models for each year
http://www.fiberglassics.com/library/Mirro_Craft

Perhaps you can figure out the model. IMO, +/- an inch or so between yours actual measurements and the listed specs will be close enough to ID it

I heard back from the mirrocraft VP. He told me it is a 1962. I believe it's the family model because it has the 2 bench seats.

Nice find! My parents had the same motor in the 33hp version when I was a kid. It had a great mellow sound and was real smooth. Yours should go pretty good on that light boat. Love the steering wheel too.

The aluminum still looks pretty good and none of that wood is going to be tough to replace. Obviously go through that steering system and replace the cables etc and that hose clamp with a real lock pin!

As for the windshield I seem to remember someone posting on how to buff those clear again. Or just ditch it for that wind-n-bugs in yer teeth experience. šŸ˜›

Good luck and keep the progress pics coming.

Thanks for the input. I am definitely going to replace the steering and throttle and gear selector cables. I like the steering wheel too. Gonna take some elbow grease to get it back to clean chrome. I think I'm gonna try and refinish the windshield. I'll start another thread when I a start the restoration process.

No need to start a new Thread. Just PM a MOD and have them change the Title of this one to whatever you want.
