Okay guys,

Here is a boat that I came across for next to nothing. The original owner hasn't had it in the water for 3+ years at least he said.

I'm going to be doing a complete from the ground up restoration on this bad boy. My main question is will I be able to find most, if not a majority of the replacement parts on this site? I'm going to be doing a complete teardown and rebuild of the engine. Milky lower gear case oil and it looks like a unicorn took a dump in there is so sparkly with shavings.

Let me know your thoughts and predictions.

Had to use photo bucket because it wouldn't let me ipload pics directly to the thread?

Welcome aboard:welcome: , You may want to think about repowering to an Alpha with a better engine.

tough to covert an L drive to a sterndrive but if you want to rebuild the boat structure anything is possible.

honestly I'd scrap the boat at this point. I've owned an L Drive. Same model but open bow.

Bayliner, plants growing from the deck, L drive with a blown lower... Man, this is like the perfect storm of "don't spend a dime on it" cheap boat projects. Time to cut sling load on this one, and look for something more deserving of your time and dollars.

Howdy

If you really like the boat and are willing to do a complete gut (transom, hull, deck, motor, and drive) then we will be hear to help. You should try to find a donor boat with a good motor and drive and swapping to Mercruiser is an option without much issue. Not saying you have to go this route, just options.

Unless your up to this task and have the funds to do it, I would not recommend doing it.

Guys, I only paid $200 for this boat and trailer LOL so even if I put 2k into it I'm still ahead and I get to enjoy the rebuild. Time and money is not my issue. I just want to do it because it's there. I got the powerhead out and disassembled for the most part. One thing I am having a hard time with is locating the gasket set. My plate reads, model # 120DL90B serial # 1063. All I can find is the A and C models. Turns out this is a'90 not a '92 like he thought. Anyway, where can I find a complete set? I took some more pics today which I included below. I spent about 30 minute checking every cm of the cylinder walls and my nail didn't catch, not even a little so that makes me happy. I did however find some scoring on cylinder 4 which I also included below. I don't think it's a huge problem but any predictions from anyone? Pistons look great as do the rings so I think that's all good to go just need a good cleaning. Anything else jump out at anyone?

I think you have far bigger problems than the motor. I would assess the transom, stringers and engine mounts.

2k won't even get you close to the boat launch, figure at least double that to get back on the water, maybe much more.

Motor looks pretty good, but I'm not much help with the motor, I've never touched one. The outboard guys should be able to help in that area.

I was doing some reading on other threads and a guy bought the gasket kit I mentioned however because it was an Ldrive, the exhaust gasket didn't match up. Is this something that I would be able to cut our from a gasket sheet?

To get some others looking at you motor, suggest putting it in the Chrysler Force area. Mentioning this area because of your post about the gaskets. You could have one for the motor and this one for the hull

If the motor is apart I would have cylinders honed, trash the rings and bearings and get new. Have the connecting rods and :lol:crank magnafluxed and checked with a mic. For roundness. Lots that can be wrong that you'd never See with the naked eye. I am not a fan of putting it all together again with any used bearings or rings. Just me though. If nothing else you have some ornamental grass for your front yard out of all this  honestly, That 2k could go to just the engine. It is a cool looking boat but it sure looks like it was neglected a bit.

Looks like the there was water in the motor, the heads are too clean and there appears to be some pitting on one of the rod bearing surfaces.

So I hands been busy with the motor, transom and lower unit tear down. I will pay some project pictures tomorrow. I did check the heads and block with a sheet of glass, all good. I did take the crank down to have it checked and clean bill of health also. The only problem I had throughout the tear down was one of the exhaust bolts snapped on me. So far so good!!
