Vinyl for seats

We have been searching hard to keep our restoration budget under control and made a couple of discoveries along the way. We found marine grade vinyl at Jo-Ann fabrics that was about $20 a yard and used their 50% off coupon which saved us over $300. We also debated about the plywood for the seats and the upholstery shop owner showed us a sample of some PVC board the he found in HD. It is called PVC sheet, 1/2x48x8 http://www.homedepot.com/p/Veranda-HP-1-2-in-x-48-in-x-8-ft-White-PVC-Trim-H120AWS6/205309788 he stated that it was a great cost reduction instead of the marine grade. Not all stores have it in stock.

I wonder if the staples for attaching your vinyl will penetrate the board?

Yes, this board has been used or a couple of boat jobs by the upholstery shop.
