I am looking for advice on weather this boat is worth restoring, at least for a first time fiberglass person. There is a pretty good crack on the outside of the transom that I am a little worried about. The boat is pretty rough but I believe it can be fixed up? I have a 20' trailer (crownline) and a v153 glastron boat with a nice 89 Merc that could go on it. OR I could take the easy way out, sell the Larson sea lion and restore the little glastron, a much easier task. I think I'd be OK with either decision. The sea lion just scares me.

Thanks, I was worried about the transom, looks nasty, heck the whole boat looks nasty right now. I just didn't know if there was a point of not repairable on a restoration like this. I'm going to put it on the new trailer and take it down to the windshield shop and see what they can do about mounting some lexan in there and come up with some kind of trim. That's kind of a stumbling block for me.

Well first off I want to say that is an extremely cool boat! Second I'm not an expert and fiberglass repair has all the boats I've worked on so far have been aluminum, so I can't attest to how difficult it's going to be to repair or even if it is repairable it should be but wait for one of the more experienced fiberglass people to come along and give you their input. That being said I love the lines and if I came across that boat for the right price I'd snatch you up in a heartbeat, it's definitely a big project but with the expertise here I'm sure it's doable.

That is close but my steering wheel is on the right side and no trim by the windows like in the bottom right pic.

If you are looking for a project to keep you busy, you've found it. I think the man hours will be the biggest cost. If you are up for that then go for it. I know fiberglass and resin are pricey but when weighed against the time you will spend getting to fiberglass and then to reassembly, the cost of glass isn't the main factor. I think just about anything is repairable when it comes to fiberglass. You already have one of the glass pros in sphelps following so you're off to a good start. Listen to his opinion and suggestions. He has done some beautiful glass work. I hope you opt to restore. That is a cool looking boat you have there. And judging by the name, it might have been owned by Bruce Sprigsteen. :)

Fillup. Looks like a ton of work but very cool boat. If you don't move forward with it, let me know. I'd like to take a look and maybe take it off your hands.

Take pictures and measurements of everything while you are doing the demo. You will need the references later as you put her back together. Post em and ask away.
Good luck and again that's a cool boat!
