Default Water pump saga ..all should read to keep your Outboard alive ....

30HP Chrysler 1978 purchased for $40 runs fine ,135 psi both cylinders ...water from the upper exhaust holes when run in a barrel, New impeller . So off to the lake ....NO.....Fortunatly I had fitted a pisser (tell tail ) and it had no water from it ..in fact it had smoke ! Having ruled out the head gasket and exhaust chamber putting back pressure into the system and runnig the leg in a barrel with a drill I concluded the pump body was not up to standard ..now an Impeller is $60 here so a pump housing? $300....so no way on a $40 outboard.

So I re lined the pump housing ...turn out the housing about 1.5mm ..face off the upper surface and take the same amount off the mating face...Epoxy in a thick walled aluminium tube ..3mm thick and then turn out to the correct diameter ..sounds easy but you tried holdling that thing even in a 4 jaw chuck ...!!!

Wondered if this was common practice......? my next one is in 100% PTFE when the block of material arrives

    Chrysler Rule No 1......Fit a pisser ....
