Force 125 exhaust relief attachment

I am thinking about doing this (see photo) to help alleviate the exhaust fumes while at idle. The idea is to put the tubes about an inch below the surface of the water. Do you think this will work? Could it harm anything?

Fumes may not exit and accumulate in the cowling and killing the motor.

They are pressure relief ports.Excess water pressure and exhaust exit through them.They were designed there so there wouldn't be excess pressure in the motor.I doubt that the tubes hurt or help.It's needs to come out some where.It won't build up under the cowl. There shouldn't be any exhaust in the hood area.If there is then there is a problem.
They look kind of silly.I don't usually critisize anyones handy work,Sorry!!!
Unless you have a teltale how you gonna know if the motor is pumping?
My motors(twin/85s) blow out a LOT of water at an idle and I know my pumps are working.J

They are called exhaust relief for a reason: When the engine is sitting low in the water, backpressure is high and the engine will idle crappy and may stall. The object IS to have exhaust exit above the water.

On low bass boats, I usually add a couple of tubes about 2-3 inches higher on the Evinrudes to improve the idle. Helps.

As an aside: Note that the engine is a 25 inch shaft model and note that the transom clamps are bolted through the bottom two holes--Not incorrect, but using the top holes allows raising the engine one inch without drilling new holes. It also puts the pressure closer to the main casting, allowing a stronger mounting. If you have a choice, it is always better to use the top set of holes.

As far as that trying to prevent exhaust fumes at idle...it wont work the exhaust will still rise out of the water. It also looks to be restricting the exhaust a bit because the hoses are a smaller diameter than the holes which are inserted in the holes. This is what I did to my relief exhaust..I know it won't enhance performance of the engine but I did it to increase flow and prevent the huge exhaust bubbles from the main exhaust at idle.

Thanks for all the input. Just for the record, I know it doesn't look very good but I was just interested to see if it would work first. Here in San Luis Obispo the water temp and air temp is in low 50's so I get a lot of steam at idle that mixes with the exhaust fumes. (see photo) I may be testing this weekend, but me thinks I am wasting my time on this one. Oh well!

Yea, that's the thing. This engine was born to run. And it does, beautifully, at all speeds now. But at wide open it really comes alive. Quite exhilarating. Feels almost as good as...... well, you know what I mean.
