Force 120 HP water pump change? Hints anyone?

Hi, I need to change my impeller / water pump, is the impeller all that is needed to change, how difficult is it? I've changed one on a 1965 65hp Merc before, but this is a bit newer, 1990 model and more motor. I think I ran her hot the other day. Thanks, Norman!

hello buy the manual first. read it second then grab tools. if you think it got hot run a compression check and test the alarm system. you may also wish to inspect the t-stat and pressure control system. also be forwarned the force engines had a tendancy to pophead gaskets for no apperent reason. gets worse if you over heat them. my reccomendation with force/chysler is replace the head gasket every 2 or 3 years as a maint item and replace anytime it over heats, water in a cyl is a killer. force got a bad rap due to some of its quirks but if properly maintaned and gaskets and cooling and fuel systems get regular attention,not just when it broke, they do last a long time.
