88 force impeller water pump and engine identification problem question
hi guys im a newbie here ill 1st say hello..lol
so i have a couple issues with my 50 h/p force, bought the boat about 5 years ago and used it the 1st 2 years constantly and a couple times the 2nd year there was some buzz going off under the dash after going full throttle to the fishing spot of choice, i have no guages so my only guess was temp warning? and i noticed not much water was coming out the upper holes, it would spit at best and seemed to be about null the last time i brought it out and the buzzer was on quite a bit that time
so my assumption was that the impeller was gone so it sat lonely the next 2 years and being laid off like too many others right now i decided it was time to either do something with it or let it go, well i went fishing a couple times from shore and got the bug again so i went to get the impeller and they need the serial/model number, so i ran home and the I.D. plate is completely white and all that can be read on it is "U.S. Marine", so i pulled out the impeller which as near as i can tell was hard, worn and curved pretty good so im on the right track i think
i brought in the part and we matched it up and stuck it back together and all seemed happy, so put on the ear-muffs and it started right up, thank god for sta-bil..lol ran it for a bit and it really only was spitting again, there was nowhere near any "pee-stream" as i guess id call it
and again i heard that buzz shortly before shutting it down, it had run about 10-15 mins, i have no tach but id guess from idle to around 2,500 RPM was the range i ran it in
now for the questions
#1 is the buzz an overheat warning?
#2 i also read in here there was gaskets for the impeller on force motors...of which mine had none therefore i didnt replace any, should there be some?
#3 the "date plate" has 88 in the lil circle so im assuming its an 88 motor, but is there anyway else to identify what i have?
#4 is there a 2nd water pump on these motors? and if so where is that sucker?..lol
any help would be greatly appreciated and thanx in advance
Re: 88 force impeller water pump and engine identification problem question
On muffs you may not be getting enough water to 'pee'. Test it on the lake. The warning buzzer is your overhear warning and you should not continue to operate your motor until the problem is resolved. Did your overhear buzzer come on after you replaced the impeller? I am not familiar with your motor so I cant speak for your water pump gaskets. Try posting some pictures and hopefully someone can chime in with your correct year and possibly figure out a model #. As far as I know, there is only one water pump for any outboard.
Re: 88 force impeller water pump and engine identification problem question
yes the buzzer did come on shortly right before i shut it down, normally it would come on after running to a [place on a lake, i would idle down to get exactly where id want to be and it would come on about 30 seconds before i got parked
Re: 88 force impeller water pump and engine identification problem question
i have the same motor and i just rebuilt the carb, fuel pump, and water pump impeller, there are no gaskets for the housing so your good. make sure your thermostat is in good working order i took mine out untill i order a new one. as for the serial numbers there should be a plate on the powerhead somewhere but im not too sure as iv never noticed one cause mine is still on the plate on the housing, also was you impeller in-tact or was in in several pieces
Re: 88 force impeller water pump and engine identification problem question
ok i guess a thermostat never occurred to me, where is that hiding?...ill pull it out and see if theres any difference and i should be able to match that up also...lets hope..lol
Re: 88 force impeller water pump and engine identification problem question
ok thanx pigeon, i did pull out the stat, however my time lately has been a premium thing and i have yet to actually get the boat to the lake yet...hopefully within the next couple weeks ill make it...well see..lol
