Default 1994 90 HP Force Overheating

    Hello,

I have a 1994 90 HP Force motor, new water pump housing, new impeller, gaskets and all. I have also added the tell tale, but I am still overheating. I am not getting a steady stream out of the tell tale. I checked for blockage, and have found nothing. Are there welch bolts at the bottom of the block that could of came out?, causing the water jackets to not fully fill up with water. Or maybe a head gasket or exhaust gasket? I do get some water flow at higher RPM, but then bring it back down and thats when it overheats. Please send any help my way.

There are no welch plugs in the block. Have you tried the thermostat?

The old impeller was in pretty good shape. The thermostat was taken out by the previous owner. The new upper housing, impeller and new gaskets were installed correct. I even put a hose up to the water tube and got great flow out of the tell tale. When I took it out this weekend, after about five minutes, steam started coming out of the tell tale really bad. So I shut it down and got a tow back to the dock.

Did a compression check, Cyl#1-85psi, Cyl#2-115, Cyl #3-120.....so cyl#1 has some problems, hopefully not too bad.

But even with #1 at 85 psi, why would the water jacket not fill up?

Maybe a bad head gasket? Have you inspected #1 plug real closely? Does it look any different from the others?

Yes the first time I took it out #1 spark plug was fouled out. Thanks for your help, I'm gonna take the head off this week and look around.
