Default 1988 force 125 does not go all the way into gear

when i shift into gear the prop turns slowlyregadless of throttle speed. It is enough to move boat slowly then after a minute or so it jumps into gear. Seems like not engaging something all the way. local repair shops (southern connecticut) won't even look at it because its a force.Had the gear/throttle mechanism worked on last year because it was stiff, ran okay for a few months.

Check the hub inside the prop, it could be sliping
