How Fast Should My Boat Go? Its A 1987 Bayliner Capri 1950 On A 1987 Force 125 Outboard Its Going Max 27 Mph. Just Want To Know What Might Be The Problem If Its Too Slow For It? Thanks

Not a bad speed, but not great.

You could optimize performance by tuning up the engine, replacing plugs, verifying spark and compression readings, setting motor to the correct height, adjusting the trim, and using the correct prop if it is the wrong pitch or damaged.

Also, the boat may just be too heavy, possibly due to waterlogged flotation foam.

Lots to check before you can start any needed repairs.

I have a 1989 1900 capri with the same 125 and if I am the only one in the boat, I can get 42 mph checked with my GPS. Yours being a 1950 is a bit larger, but not too much. The "lots to check" that Roscoe is speaking of is in his list, any one or combination of those items will contribute to lower speed. I would do exactly what Roscoe says, check all the items in his post, especially compression on each cylinder. 3 seasons ago mine was running about 30 - 35, turned out 1 cylinder was shot, I rebuilt it and now she's running strong for 3 years now (knock-knock-knock) and I get 42.

I know my maxum is a different boat than yours, weighing around I'd guess 1800 pounds, was 2150 pounds I beleive as a cuddy cabin. Has an 89 Force 125 on it, and is 19.5 feet long. According to the speedometer it's making about 37 mph.
