    Default 1987 Force 125 Rectifier

Hello,I have a 1987 125hp 1258v7b. My rectifier has went out and I was wondering if any 4wire rectifer will work on it. I have a 79' Mercury 140hp that doesn't run and was wanting to see if the rectifier off of it would work on my Force before I pay the $40.00 for a new one. I have read somewhere that you can buy a 25A bridge rectifier at Radio Shack for around $5. Has anyone tried this and does it work. I don't want to cook my battery since it's new.

The 25A rectifier from Radio Shack works just fine. Had one on mine for years.

yup. the square bridge rectifier is a universal standard. You could take the one out of your TV or Microwave and it would work just fine in your Force. It is the universal device for turning AC into DC. The radio shack one will do just fine. The original was rated at 35A. If you live in a remote place with no radio shacks then you can mail order the deluxe 50A version with metal case from mouser.com electronics for about $3.

It's kind of odd that yours broke. Unless you hit it with hammer they should never break. A rectifier only has to dump 14 watts of power for a 10A charge. On a Force, they rarely even reach 1/4th of their rating. If yours burned up you may want to check for short circuits.
