Ok fellas, here's the question. Took my toon out of storage yesterday. While prepping it for the water, I decided to take the rear plugs(plastic) out of the toons to replace them.

Long story short, when the seal was broken on the plugs, I had a good rush of air from both, indicating (at least to me) that the tunes are well sealed. Even so, each pontoon emitted about a gallon or two of water.

How can that be? If there is vacuum pressure in the pontoons, there can't be a leak can there?

The boat has not been in the water since last fall (October) and has been in indoor, unheated storage.

What gives?

Thank you.

I recently went through this process and thought i would shed some light on actual values. When i started rebuilding my first pontoon, I always in the back of my mind thought "well at least it will be worth a ton just for the aluminum". There is definitely value in the aluminum but not as much as people may or many not think.

When i drove over the scales my total weight with 2 people, my super crew f150, boat and trailer was ~9,000lbs. When i unloaded the boat and came back through the scales with towing just the trailer i was at ~7,400. My boat was a 24' Riviera Cruiser, and still had the 3/4 plywood floors in it, console, carpet, rails and fuel with about 10 gallons of old gas.

Current prices are ~$.40 cents for clean aluminum (bare metal) and ~$.15 cents for dirty (metal mixed in with other materials)

to strip the boat down to clean aluminum you would obviously need to remove the floors, which at ~75 lbs a sheet for 3/4" * 6 sheets is 450lbs alone...and remove the old gas ~7lbs a gallon * 10 = 70lbs and carpet and console and such figure there is a total of ~1,000 lbs of clean aluminum on an average 24' pontoon boat.

So 1,000lbs (if clean) * .40 cents = $400
Or 1,600lbs (dirty) * .15 cents = $240

Maybe values are different in other parts of the country but this was my experience first hand.
Though i would share this with everyone :)

Anyway last fall, I came off the lake, loaded up and did a hot oil change on my EFI Merc 90. The engine has not been started to date and I plan to hit the water this weekend.

Should I drain a cup of oil out and put that much in the new oil filter prior to start or am I over analyzing this?

Any constructive comments appreciated

Input needed....I have a 2001 Fisher DLX 220 toon with a custom snap-on mooring/trailer cover. Problem is, it is a pain in the butt to constantly uncover/cover every time out. I am looking at the "drawstring" type mooring cover while the boat is docked, but, the problem I have is....how does these covers work with the Bimini? They obviously do not have cut-outs for the Bimini brackets, so, how do they fit on the boat in this instance? Suggestions are gladly welcomed! And no, leaving it uncovered is not an option....

I have a 92 bass buggy 18 with a 40hp Johnson tracker outboard. I bought it new in 91 and its been a fantastic boat! I have a 40lb thrust trolling motor on it but it struggles on a windy day. But I have just acquired a 75lb thrust trolling motor I want to put on it. The new trolling motor is 24VDC and is recommended to use 6 gauge wire with a 50 amp fuseable link. The boat is wired from factory for the trolling motor but I checked the size of wire and fuseable link thinking it maybe to small. I couldn't find any markings on the wire itself (what I could see anyway since most of the wire is inside the main wire loom that leads to the bow) but what I did find is that the markings on the fuseable link is 32V 40A. The wire is a little bigger than the diameter of an ink pen and the bow plug is 3 prong. It is possible the wire maybe 6 gauge but I am thinking it maybe 8 gauge. I have tried to search for info on the wiring system but didn't find much helpful info. Question is, would it support that big of a trolling motor or should I upgrade it?
