Just picked up a 21ft v-hull with a 115 1987 Suzuki DT with a 13 1/4 - 17 "turning point express" prop. So we took it out on a beat run, and it starts easy and idles calmly. Works great till we get it to about 1500 RPM and it just won't go over that, doesn't die or do anything weird it just won't go any faster than that... I would say 5-6 mph or so. Talked to the previous owner and he was told that it was a bad magneto coil, is there any way that could be the cause? I am going to go down and swap the Primary No. 2 coil for the battery charging coil to see if that fixes it, but I don't know if it is really the cause. Any thoughts on other causes? Thank you very much for any light you can shed on this problem -Glaspar

I have a chance to buy an 08 yamaha 2 stroke that has never been used for 3200 bucks. I think it is more than the owner paid for it 5 years ago from the dealer. Is this motor that much better than any four stroke motor than I can buy today. The most enticing thing for me is the low weight of the motor. Will this 2stroke outlast any 4stroke made in today's market. The biggest negative is the smoke it puts out but if this motor is way mor reliable I can deal with the smoke? Experts please chime in?

I have a 99 DF 70 that I bought a year (been rebuilt). I ran it all last summer. Decided to change oil this year. Checked the oil and it showed to be way over full on the dipstick. Drained oil and got about a gallon out (it did look great and had no indication of water). Replaced filter and added 3 quarts of oil, fan it a bit checked oil and shows to be over mark on the dipstick.

The manual shows 5.2 quarts with a oil filter. My thoughts are maybe it has the wrong dipstick. What should the dipstick length be? Anybody got any other thoughts?

Hey guys, First off, I am not a mechanic and have very little knowledge of engines. My dad and I have a 16ft alumacraft with a mid 90's 60hp Yamaha.

The other day, I notice clean 2 stroke oil draining down the outside of the engine. I pulled the Cowl and you could see it pooled in the bottom. I will say that the engine was trimmed all the way up as if we were going to be traveling with it.

I am going to visit my parents tomorrow and I would like to take a look at this. Can you provide some feedback and pointers to check for? Could it be overflowing?

My father mentioned that he has not seen any further oil since leaving it trimmed down for a couple weeks.

Thanks

I have a new 15hp Yamaha 4stroke motor F15CESH with about 6 hours on it. The motor is starting to have to be put in gear twice or so that the prop will engage to forward perform. What's odd is that the motor will push the boat at low speeds until speedup. Then it acts like it's slipping. I checked the prop for slippage in the hub, but it's solid. I can turn the motor turning the prop. This just started happing end of last season just once. Now it happened twice yesterday while fishing. This only seems to happen when the motor is warm but not every time its forward engaged. Do you think I need to adjust the shift rod slightly? The dealer wants $110.00 an hour to look at it. I have no problem with the slight adjustments myself. I rebuilt the top end of my old 115 Johnson on the tailgate of my truck. Adjustments are no big deal if you think that may be tried.

Hi. I'm having some issues with my 2004 F15 4str Yamaha (single carb). I'll run through start to finish of what's happened...

Ran ok start of season for 5 mins then cut, no start. Took it in, turned out there was a lot of gunk in the carbs and fuel system. Flushed it all out, cleaned carbs, new filter, cleaned all lines. New spark plugs. New fuel, cleaned tank.

Then would start but won't idle. Cleaned carbs again. Fuel pump wasn't pumping properly so replaced. Still no idle. It will continue to run if left on choke, or if revved, but won't idle. Both jets are clear. Carb is spotless!

Been back to dealer for help, and last thing I can think of changing is gaskets between carb and manifold for possible air leak. Can anyone think of anything else that I could check/rule out?

I've only had the o/b for 1 season but it ran a dream all season with no issues at all. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and also new to the 4 stroke technology. Quick to the point I have a 2003 4 Stroke Yamaha 25 HP (F25TLRB) and it is stuck in forward at ALL times. This happened all of a sudden. Regardless of throttle position weather forward, neutral, or reverse the engine is ALWAYS in forward gear, even during cranking! I just bought the boat two days ago and it test drove excellent, now two days later I'm a bit worried. The throttle movement is smooth and I have observed where the linkage connects to the "gearbox" for a lack of a better term. I just can't visually see where the problem is. I see no missing springs or worn parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am waiting on a master repair manual in the mail to assist with all future repairs. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone help if they have had this before, I have had a coil go before on #3 but worked fine after I replaced the coil, but I took it out and had no spark #3 and #4 and would not plane.
It ran with only 2 cylinders and one at one stage. It had been running at least 2 weeks ago fine on all four cylinders.
I definately have no spark on #3 and #4 please Help.
