    Default minnkota 30lb trust wiring question

    I purchased a minkota trolling motor with 30 lb trust my question is if i add a extension to the wire harness using 8 guage wire to the battery do i need to add a fuse i will be using a separte battery for the trolloing motor it will be a distance 8 to 10 feet.Thanks for any input

    If you are a person who likes everything fused then one near the battery is what you should do . Remenber if you dont have a fuse and there is a short the wire inside the plastic is red hot ..you grab it and get a very nasty plastic filled burn.....You should keep the wires as short as you can but if they must be that long keep them thick.
    These 12v 30lb motors run great on 24v ...common practice in australia

    Good luck on finding a 24 volt battery (at least for a reasonable price) and I also question the wisdom of running a 12 volt motor on 24 volts. 24 volts is typically obtained by wiring two 12 volt batteries in series. It may work fine and if this is a typical stern mount unit and you really need the extra oomph it is not a major loss if the motor goes bye-bye.
