Transom saver????

Do these transom savers do any good.I have an 97 grumann 14 foot aluminum fishing boat with a johnson 9.9 since new and never had a problem with the transom. I just bought a 1994 14 foot sylvan aluminum with a 28 evinrude and a merc. 5 hanging on the transom. This is a lot more wieght than my grumman carries.Would this be to much weight for the sylvan boat transom. The previous owner had no problems but he did not travel much. I plan to trailer quite a bit.Also I have heard you should have power trim to use the transom saver. Any help would be great.-----Flathead

Howdy, Flahthead.T&T is not required to use a transom saver. It is good insurance for any size boat/engine.Good luck.

Flat-What I would think about in your instance is whether or not you can trailer the boat with the outboards in the full-down position or whether they must be tilted up for ground clearance when traveling. I wouldn't worry if they can be in locked down position as this doesn't put as much torque on the transom when trailering as having them tilted up does. As Jb stated, good insurance if trailering with motors tilted up. Hope that helps.

FlatheadI agree with Beaux, if you can leave motor down with good ground clearance you do not need one.If it has to be tilted up I think it is a good Idea. They do work better with power trim but as long as have good straps on both ends can use without power trim. Have Fun
