Steering from Mercury to Johnson

I finally found me a decent 85 HP Javelin that I want to put on my boat in place of my 65 HP Mecury. Everything is fine except the steering cable. Is there something I need, because Mercurys hook up a lot different?At least steer (pun) me the right direction on what to buy,or what to do.

Stumpys, Years ago Johnson did not have the hollow tilt tube into which the steering rod goes. If this is your problem, you need to find a "Transom Support Master Mounting Kit". They are available at West Marine($120), BoatUS and other places. Thes places also have other steering hardware, which may assist you.

or get the type from here at iboats.com , they connect to the transom under the engine mounting holes...... cheeper and better, and stronger... at least they are cheeper elsewhere, not at iboats http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi...****=547842877
