Thinking of purchasing this boat w/ a johnson 200hp ocean pro motor.I am concerned this is not enough power for this boat. Would appreciate any input or speed this boat should do.Thank you,Gary
I have the Striper WA which, according to the Seaswirl website, weighs 300 lbs more. In fact, by the time one adds the sleeping bags, cooking gear, coats, and all the other stuff one "needs," I'll bet it's 500-600 lbs more than the typical center console. I also have a 4-stroke yamaha kicker. There's plenty of power with my 200 Johnson But I discovered that, in the winter, with all the canvas and winter gear added, that I was better served by the 15 X 13 prop. In the summer, remove the canvas, switch to a 15 X 15.5 prop, and I'm good to go. I also am running on the Columbia River, which in the winter will have a current of 8-10+ mph...and that makes a difference as well. There's about a 10 mph WOT difference between the two props.And...the Johnson is about a bullet-proof as you can get. The Coast Guard here says they're less trouble than their Mercs. Good luck!
Gacman-That motor will be plenty powerful enough. My buddy has the Striper 2001 21 CC with a 200 HP Evinrude Ficht. His boat is about 300 lbs. lighter than the model you are looking at. He just upgraded to a SS prop this weekend, and got 54.5 mph at 5500rpm. He is a real experienced boater who knows how far he can push his boat. He was a little nervous at that speed!
