Default Quicksilver throttle cold start button?

Hey guys i have been having trouble starting my mariner 135. We have recently replaced both fuel filters. We think we may not be starting the engine properly through our quicksilver throttle. I have been reading about a cold start button on the throttle or some type of button that is used to start the engine. I have posted a picture of our throttle but can not locate this button that many people have told me about. Any help is greatly appreciated.photo.jpgphoto.jpg

Can you push in on that black "button" at the bottom of the shaft? That's where mine is. You push the button in and move the lever forward - keeps the gears in neutral while giving a little throttle to assist starting.

Minuteman is right. Push that button to disengage the shifter. That will allow you to give it some throttle to warm it up. You should also be able to push the key in to prime for cold starts.

I finally made sense out of your controls. Your speed/shift selector has a black button where it pivots; looks to be about the size of a half dollar. With the shifter in N, pushing the button then advancing the shifter forward should allow just the throttle to operate and the farther you push it the higher the engine will rev when it lights off. In addition there may be another "primer" button on the key. Operation of this is usually to turn the key to the first position cw, depress the key and the black plastic hootus that the key mounts into depresses about 1/8" which primes your engine. After about 5 seconds of holding as said, still depressed, rotate the key on over to the next position which is start. The engine should light off in a couple of seconds or so. If not repeat the process. Should light off after 2 or 3 attempts. Course you should have squeezed your primer bulb on the fuel line to the engine till firm to pump fuel to the engine. When it lights off, move your shift lever (throttle lever only for the time being) up or down to set your warm up speed to suit you. If engine chokes, just push in the key a second or two to give it a squirt of fuel to help it get through the warm up function.

When you are happy with it running, take the shift lever and put it in N which should cause the black button on it to pop out causing your shift lever to now be what is was, a shifter and throttle control.

Put the shifter in neutral, push in on the throttle only button and move the lever forward. You will now have throttle only. When you bring the lever back to neutral, the button will automatically pop back out so you can shift gears again.

Hey guys just an update... After using the cold start feature the engine ran perfectly I cant believe I attempted to launch and start the boat twice before this without thinking that the little button on the throttle gets pushed in. It was a great feeling being able to use the boat for the first time. Thanks again to everyone especially Don. S you saved me alot of money.
