pedestal seats

My boat has some of the familiar back to back/fold out to a lounge/bunk. As is typical the bases are just plywood boxes. The seats are in fair shape, especially considering the year they were made - 1978.Looking at catalogs (online), I see a variety of pedestals and lots of seats that generically? fit on these pedestals.At least for the driver's seat, I'd like to go with one of these pedestal seats. Am I to assume the base just lagbolts to the deck? And how universal or interchangeable are these seats?Off hand, I can see buying a decent power up and down pedestal ($99) and then a medium grade seat to perch on top. Right now the old seat is way too low and not the softest ride.Any observations and advice would be appreciated.Thx.dw
