Default new to me 04 bayliner 160br windshield install

    Hi all!

I have been lurking for a while, but finally my wife and I pulled the trigger on this 2004 bayliner 160br.

The PO had removed the passenger side front glass... He said he did it so he could have more room in order to scuba. He assured me how easy it was to put it back in...

Well I am having a really hard time with this and was hoping there is some magical explanation on how to put it back. If I can't do it I am going to have to call a pro to come re-install it, which might be my best option.

Anyway here are a couple pics of it in the garage. Just barely squeezed her in there lol.

    Sorry crappy cell phone pics.

Being an outboard guy...I gotta say nice boat!

I don't have any tips on your glass but just be careful and DON'T BREAK IT!!! That curved glass is next to impossible to replace and costs thousands. Given that, it might not be a bad idea to call a pro (someone fully legit and insured).

I called my local boat sales and service place and the guy was like, just slide it in... lol. I told him I tried but didn't want to break it, so he said bring it by and they will do it.

Feel like an idiot but oh well.

Better safe than trying to find a rare piece of glass or paying TaylorMade 7 zillion bucks for it.

No, an idiot would charge ahead and break something.

Quoted for truth, i had to order the side glass for my boat and it wasn't cheap, only place was the dealership.. If you have to, pay the $50 to $100 to get it done right, kind of an insurance policy.

I'm guessing you are having trouble fitting the glass back into the gasket. It has probably hardened and and maybe it shrank from sun exposure, just a guess. Some cooking oil or Pam might lubricate enough to allow the glass to slide in. If I'm on the wrong track, never mind.

Still, I think EZ has the right idea - let a pro do it and save the 2nd mortgage for your next boat

I would ask what would happen , in the event THEY break the glass....spray on silicone is my choice for sliding anything into rubber.... I have to replace rubber leaf spring shackles and bushings all of the time. I am an automotive technician by trade. I have tried all sorts of lubricants and the silicone is the best , IMHO. I use silicone everytime I need to slip a piece of rubber over or into something.

I think you would need to remove the gasket from the frame, put it in place on the glass, then insert the assembly into the frame. otherwise the gasket will bunch up and/or collapse when you try to push the glass in.

that is what I tried, but the curved part wont go down properly. I feel like the amount of force I need to exhibit will break something.

    I GOT IT IN! woooo!

NYBo was exactly right, but I also had to take the frame off the boat and soak the gasket in soapy water. Once I did that I slide the gasket on the glass then started pressing the bottom of the frame to the glass with a little pressure. It finally popped into place and I put all the screws in.

Screwed the bottom frame with the glass back into the boat and PRESTO!

The guy at the boat dealer was saying that I was going to need to buy a new windshield and that its impossible to put back in. One call to Taylor Made and the very nice lady on the phone explained to me how to do it.

    Thanks Taylor Made!
