Don't forget GASLINE ANTIFREEZE!

As important as decarbonizing an engine we should all add some gasline antifreeze to the gas tank sometime in the summer. Texans and lost Canadians as well! If your local garage doesn't carry it then swipe some of the wife's "Fondu Fuel". We have to eliminate every drop of condensation or it may accumulate in the carb bowls and then sputter, sputter, sputter.

hi jb, won't antifreeze do a better job at reducing cndensation in the fuel tank itself? a water seperator is inline to the motor is it not?i have seen some pretty rotten tanks due to condensation problems.

There are much better fuel system conditioners than gas line anti-freeze. Stabil and SeaFoam are two of them.

i don't have a water/fuel seperator. i don't run any additives, short of a lead substitute for my old engine. and even that i doubt i need to do. never had any issues... gets real humid here in nebraska too. when there's lots of condensation in the cool mornings in spring and fall. i just keep my fuel tank topped off so there's no room for condensation to form..... if i did experience a problem, think i'd go for the water/fuel seperater prior to additives.... though i do use stabil for winter layup with my full tank of fuel.....

If you want to eliminate condensation, keep the tank full. That's what I do. No air, no condensation. I don't put anything in my boat's tank in the summer other than gasoline. Just like I don't put anything in my car gas tank either. I also would not run the typical gas line antifreeze that you find in the gas station, I would run Sea Foam if anything.

You don't have any more condensation in Nebraska than we do in Minnesota/Wisconsin (and I would suspect less actually). Don't know how old your motor is but lead is not needed in your fuel, and wouldn't that constitute and additive?

Methyl Hydrate, better known as Methanol (wood alcohol) aka Gas line antifreeze, is already an additive in most pump gases . All major oil companies, have been putting this, and other additives in for the last 5-7 yrs.
Best advise as above, keep tank full, it's just as easy to fill the top half as the bottom. Install a GOOD separator, and clean it as per instructions.

I dont believe methanol is added to fuel anymore. Are you thinking of ethanol, which is a grain alcohol. Around here most stations have up to 10% ethanol in the fuel.

Personally, I am not a big believer in ad hoc chemical additives.
